Motorola Milestone 2 available in India for Rs.20999

Online retailer LetsBuy just informed us that the Motorola Milestone 2  is available for purchase and that too at a surprising price tag of Rs.20999 make it cheaper than what the original Milestone is retailing for in the market.

The Milestone 2 is a pretty neat Android handset running on Android 2.2( no gingerbread love yet ) powered by a 1 GHz CPU. Other noteworthy features include a 5MP Camera with 720p HD video, Flash Player , Full QWERTY keypad

The handset went on sale in Europe few weeks back and it’s launch expected in this part of the world.

Samsung Galaxy Neo announced, headed to Korea

Samsung just announced another member of the Galaxy Android-running lineup. The Galaxy Neo will be a Korea-only smartphone that belongs to the upper midrange segment.

The Samsung Galaxy Neo exterior is identical to the Galaxy Ace, but for the back panel, which is reminiscent of its larger Galaxy Tab sibling.

The feature set however has been altered, with the most notable changes being the screen resolution upgrade to WVGA (800 x 480 pixels) and the introduction of T-DMB support. Bluetooth has also been promoted to version 3.0. The camera however has been downgraded to 3 megapixel resolution and has lost its autofocus capabilities.

The Galaxy Neo features an 800MHz processor and 512MB of RAM and runs on Android 2.2 Froyo. The highlights list continues with Wi-Fi (802.11b/g/n) support, a 3.5mm audio jack and a 1,500 mAh battery.

Judging by those specs the Samsung Galaxy Neo should fit somewhere between the I9001 Galaxy Galaxy S Plus and the Galaxy Ace.

The Samsung Galaxy Neo is a CDMA version so it won’t work on any GSM networks.

So far there’s no information about pricing or possible release of a global version of the Galaxy Neo.

T-Mobile myTouch 3G Slide gets Android 2.2 Froyo

HTC has released the Android 2.2 Froyo update for the T-Mobile myTouch 3G Slide. It’s not an over the air update, and you’ll need a PC (or BootCamp on a Mac) to install it.

First you’ll have to grab the HTC Sync 3.0, which you can download from HTC’s website. Moreover, you should make sure there’s at least 25MG of user data available on the device itself. Then just follow instructions provided on the screen and soon enough, you’ll have Android 2.2 running on your myTouch 3G Slide.

As you probably know, Froyo brings improved Microsoft Exchange support, better browser, WiFi hotspot capability, WiFi calling, USB Tethering, while many of the known bugs have been fixed.

Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 To Get Gingerbread Update Afterall

Here’s a massive blow to the balls of many, Sony Ericsson plans on updating the Xperia X10 to Android 2.3, Gingerbread, say what?

Last time we checked, or heard, Sony Ericsson chose never to update the X10 to Android 2.2 because their custom user interface made it difficult, so what really changed so much in Android 2.3 that would allow them to make the upgrade? We are baffled also. We never expected this, we all about thought that Sony Ericsson would have alienated their user base and force them to buy a new phone, so this move by them is pretty awesome.

They didn’t give out a date, but expect it to be in the coming weeks. They are probably testing the update right now to make sure it goes through smoothly when the time comes.

HTC EVO 3D Android Smartphone Headed To Europe

HTC announced their latest Android smartphone in the US last week, the HTC EVO 3D, and now it looks like the HTC EVO 3D is headed to Europe according to a Tweet from HTC France.

You can see the translated version of the Tweet from HTC France, which confirms that the HTC EVO 3D will be available in Europe later this year, possibly the same time as it goes on sale in the US.

The HTC EVO 3D will come with a 4.3 inch qHD display, there is also a dual core 1.2GHz processor, and a five megapixel camera on the rear which can take standard photos in a five megapixel resolution and 3D photos in a two megapixel resolution, and it comes with a dual LED flash and autofocus.

On the front of the HTC EVO 3D there is a 1.3 megapixel camera for video calls, and the 4.3 inch qHD display comes with a resolution of 960 x 540 pixels, and it is capable of displaying 3D videos and photos without the need for a pair of 3D glasses.

The HTC EVO 3D comes with Android 2.3 Gingerbread, connectivity comes in the form of WiFi, Bluetooth, and it also features a range of sensors which include a gyro sensor, a g-sensor, digital compass, proximity sensor and an ambient light sensor.

Cellular South HTC Merge comes preloaded with Amazon Appstore

Cellular South said it will be carrying the HTC Merge and this Android handset with a full QWERTY keyboard will be the first to come preloaded with the Amazon Appstore.

It packs an 800 MHz Qualcomm MSM7X30 processor, 3.8-inch display, full slide-out QWERTY keyboard, 5-megapixel camera, WiFi, 3G, GPS, Bluetooth, Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync integration and it will launch with Android 2.2 Froyo. It’s not a device that seems to blow us away with specs but it certainly isn’t a slouch.

“We’re excited to add our first Android world phone to Cellular South’s growing suite of Android smart phones and tablets as we continue to build on our promise to deliver the wireless industry’s best Android experience,” said Kevin Hankins, chief operating officer for Cellular South, in a prepared statement. “Coupled with the new Amazon Appstore for Android, the HTC Merge is the perfect device for customers who are looking for a reliable mobile experience with the features and functionality of a smart phone, whether it’s at home or traveling around the world.”

The interesting thing about the Cellular South HTC Merge is that it will come preloaded with the Amazon Appstore. This offers exclusive apps like Angry Birds Rio and you won’t have to jump through hoops to install Amazon Appstore programs like you do with other Android devices on other carriers.

The Amazon Appstore on the Cellular South HTC Merge is nice but I can’t wait for the just-launched cloud service to find its way to Android phones out of the gates. Giving Android a full client for buying and streaming a large collection of music and videos would finally give it the counterbalance to Apple’s iTunes.

The Cellular South HTC Merge will be available next month for an unspecified price but I would hope that the carrier won’t charge more than $150 for a device of this class.

Samsung Droid Charge: The Galaxy S with a larger 4.3 inch screen and Verizon 4G LTE support

Verizon’s brand spanking new 4G LTE network is getting a ton of praise from technology journalists all across America, but there’s a slight problem. There are only a handful of devices that actually support it and as of right now there’s only one smartphone  that can even take advantage of the eye popping download and upload speeds.

That’s due to change soon with the introduction of the Samsung Droid Charge. We saw this thing back in January at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas when it was known as the Droid Stealth. It’s now got a new name and today we also have a rough spec sheet. The Charge is using the same 1 GHz Hummingbird processor that’s inside the Galaxy S, it also has a 4.3 inch Super AMOLED Plus screen, 8 megapixel rear camera, forward facing 1.3 megapixel camera, and most importantly it can connect to an LTE network.

Rumor has it that this bad boy is going to get announced during the first week of April. No word on when it’ll actually ship or how much it’ll cost, but knowing the capabilities of Samsung’s engineers we’re confident that many Americans will have this thing in their pocket by this time next month. We wish the screen was a tad smaller, and the design was a little less rounded, but the hard keys are always a plus compared to the capacitive buttons that many other devices opt to use.

On a similar note, if you’ve got a need for speed then you should wait for T-Mobile to start announcing some HSPA+ 42 Mbps devices. Initial tests done at CTIA earlier this month show that T-Mobile newly upgraded network has download speeds and ping times comparable to the best Verizon has to offer, and that’s saying a lot from a supposed 3G technology.

1.4 GHz Samsung I9001 Galaxy S Plus with Gingerbread surfaces

We just got word that Samsung are working on a new hot Android smartphone called Samsung I9001 Galaxy S Plus. Packing a 1.4 GHz single-core processor and running on the latest phone-friendly 2.3 Gingerbread version of the Google OS, this Galaxy S smartphone should fill the gap between the Galaxy S II and the Galaxy Ace in the company’s 2011 portfolio.

Samsung is just about to release arguably the hottest Android smartphone of all times, but that’s not enough for a company that aims to become the world’s top cell phone manufacturer. To achieve that they should be have a device for everyone on offer and that’s why the Samsung I9001 Galaxy S Plus comes into play.

Unlike the original Galaxy S, the I9001 Galaxy S Plus will come with a metal backplate.

We are not quite sure if this is the Galaxy S II Mini, which we met a while ago, but the specs resemblance suggests that it might very well be. Just like the S II Mini, which leaked through the O2 roadmap, the Samsung I9001 Galaxy S Plus packs a SuperAMOLED screen, a 5 megapixel camera capable of recording HD video and a 1650 mAh battery. Best of all, it comes with an all-metal back.

On the other hand the Galaxy S Plus screen is said to measure 4″, while the Galaxy S II Mini was supposed to pack a 3.7″ unit. Anyway both rumors point at a launch in April so we should find out pretty soon if Samsung has one or two new smartphones in store for us.

The estimated retail price of the Samsung Galaxy S Plus (which will be called Samsung Galaxy S 2011 Edition in Russia) is said to be 24 000 RUB, which converts to $840. This seems pretty unlikely though, considering that the pre-orders for the Galaxy S II start at $700.

Vodafone UK taking Pre-Orders for Desire S, launching on April 8

HTC is known as the one of the leading mobile phones brands in the world. Back at MWC, HTC announced several new devices and HTC Desire S is one of them. HTC Desire S  is successor to HTC Desire which is one of the best Android devices of all time.

If someone in UK is looking forward to this device then it’s your lucky day because Vodafone UK is now taking pre-orders for the Desire S.

They are offering it for free with monthly plan starting from £30, and it’s a 2 yr contract. You can check out more plans over at Vodafone. Vodafone will officially launch it on April 8.

HTC Desire S comes with a 1 GHz Scorpion processor, 3.7 inch Super LCD WVGA, Android 2.3 along with Sense UI, 5 MP camera with 720p video recording and VGA front facing camera, 768 MB of Ram HSPA, Wi-Fi and Wifi hotspot feature, GPS and few other things.

Android-powered Huawei Ideos available for 140 GBP SIM-free in the UK

The original Huawei Ideos, not the more recently-unveiled X5 or X6, is now available for 139.99 GBP SIM-free from the UK online retailer Play.com.

The Android 2.2-powered device is far from modern high-end smartphone, but is rather seen as an entrance point to the world of smartphones.

Specs wise, the Ideos comes with a 2.8-inch QVGA capacitive touchscreen, 528 MHz processor, 3.2-megapixel camera with auto-focus, HSDPA and Wi-Fi 802.11n connectivity, GPS, Bluetooth and, of course, a microSD memory card slot.

As I said, it’s an entry-level device which seems well suited for first-time smartphone buyers. Once they figure out Android basics, they’ll definitely want something more powerful with better screen and faster (dual-core?) processor. Alternatively, the Ideos is also a solid choice for folks who don’t want to spend a small fortune on a mobile phone purchase, but do like the idea of having an awesome web browser as well as wide selection of apps available…
